Wanted 2: Will Angie Do It?

We all know there are no confirm reports that Angie will do or even considers making Wanted 2. The only possible way they could bring the character back is through flashbacks or prequel-like plots. But will Angie do it? Personally, I would love for her to do it.

As the great San Diego Comic-Con of '09 speeds off into our collective rearview mirror, it looks as if Earth's largest nerd-fest will continue bearing fruit for days to come. Topping the list of scoops bubbling to the surface less than 24 hours after the fact: IGN reporter Todd Gilchrist's scoop yesterday on Angelina Jolie (possibly) reprising her role as "Fox" in the upcoming sequel to "Wanted."


According to producer Timur Bekmambetov, who attended Con this weekend to promote his new CGI film "9," plans for a "Wanted 2" are well underway. "I think [the sequel] is coming," Bekmambetov said. "We're working hard to be ready to shoot in a few months."


Despite the fact she died at the end of the first film, Bekmambetov went on to reveal that the Fox character will make an appearance in the follow-up, one way or another. Describing the current status of Jolie's character as "in a wax bath" (a reference to the regenerative baths characters took in the original to heal themselves), Bekmambetov noted, "James McAvoy will be in the movie, and he will try to wake up our Fox."


So....could this mean a possible cameo appearance by Jolie, or do Bekmambetov's comments suggest only a wax replica? Having grossed over $134 million domestically, would Jolie really pass up the chance at another 8-figure payday? Would James McAvoy be willing to return for a sequel without his A-list co-star? If so, could that mean a possible "Atonement 2" as well?

"Wanted" director Timur Bekmambetov has made no secret of his desire to bring Angelina Jolie back for the sequel to last year's hit film based loosely on the comic book series by Mark Millar and J.G. Jones. However, her character's final scene in the film made such a return unlikely—if not impossible.

While Jolie previously told MTV News she didn't think her character, Fox, would be making a comeback for "Wanted 2," it's worth noting that this is still the world of comic books—and as all fans know, no character stays away very long in comics. In fact, when we spoke to Bekmambetov recently, he not only reiterated his plans to bring Jolie's character back, but he said they already have a plan for how it's going to happen.

[SPOILER ALERT!]

"If you remember from the first film, we have a recovery room with the baths of wax," Bekmambetov told MTV News. "We know how to do this, but it's still tough to do, because the bullet is inside her head."

"But there has to be a reason for her to come back... and we know the reason," he added. "I think we found the reason for her to come back."

The filmmaker said the story behind her return from the dead still trumps all other elements, but "we are trying hard."

"She was kind of... dead," he laughed.

While Jolie's return still isn't set in stone, Bekmambetov did offer up a timeline of sorts for filming to begin, saying, "I think we will make the movie this winter."
